Movie Review: Rainbow Song (2006) – Japanese Movie

Rainbow Song, despite the nonchalant title, is quite melodramatic. It’s a tragic love story with subtle but eliciting melancholic undertones. This romance-drama is a bittersweet story about friends and lovers; or should I say friends who don’t become lovers. Rainbow Song is the perfect film for anyone who can withstand a young love tearjerker.

More on the “love” — it’s one of those stories about falling in love, blind love, not knowing what’s in front of you, uncovering your true feelings and so on. Nothing is wrong with being a little “sappy”, as this film proves to be convincing and relatable. The strongest connection to be made, for male or female viewers, is from Juri Ueno‘s honest and natural acting ability which is definitely a force throughout.

Movie Review: The Romance (2006) – Korean Movie

The Romance is the perfect title for this film. It’s an intense romantic drama that implores a fight for love.  Bittersweet, ironic and fateful; perhaps the perfect medley for a forbidden love story. Themes explore opposite attractions, unlikely connections, deep attachments and the almighty “power of love”.  The character development and on-screen chemistry are just the cherry on top of an already entertaining melodrama.

“Yoon-hee is so harassed by her husband’s obsession and frantic love, that even breathing is painful to her. One day, her sudden suicide attempt is foiled when someone takes her in his arms and saves her.” (HanCinema)

The answers point somewhere in particular
Like what results from spinning the bottle
You are lead in that direction so you follow
Few questions arise because there is a cost

Second guessing is not a natural occurrence
Your wires are all programmed differently
Out of your way is impossible; its improbable
No help to the old lady crossing the street

These doors will not hold themselves open
Status quo gives no extra miles on the map
Content with the only comfort you know
A pretty bow on top does not change insides

A masquerade of faces only disguise a night
Concealed weapons still hold great intent
Unsharpened pencils have lost all purpose
You remain far too proud to ask for help

The unfortunate downfall of man is himself
Why use the stairs when there is an elevator?
Most live without a true freedom, no luxury
Always question what is already answered
