Lena Headey is a household name as she plays Cersei Lannister on HBO’s uber mega hit Game of Thrones, the TV adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fireby George R. R. Martin. Her character has as many angles as it does roles: Robert Baratheon’s widow, Joffrey’s mother, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, Queen Regent and of course a Lannister. Another memorable mother-role for Headey was as Sarah Connor, John Connor’s mother, in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles the spin-off show to the movie franchise. Headey is reprising her role as Queen Gorgo of Sparta in 300: Rise of an Empire, the prequel to 300 (2007).

Game of Thrones, the crowned epic fantasy drama series, premieres Season 3 on March 31, 2013 on HBO. It only took 9 days after the Season 2 premiere for the renewal last year. Season 3 is adapted from about the first half of A Storm of Swords, the third novel of seven in the series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. Since Game of Thrones is really an adaptation of the entire novel series and not a “season per book version”, the rest of A Storm of Swords will be adapted into Season 4. This season promises more bloodshed as the power struggle continues and the families fight for control. There are plenty of other things to look forward to such as a bunch of new cast members and characters (several which were delayed from introduction previously) as well as longer episodes (4-5 min longer).
Genre: action, adventure, fantasy, high fantasy / epic fantasy, medieval fantasy, drama, war,
Description: “Seven noble families fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros.” (IMDb)
Laura Dern is back for the second season of Enlightened on HBO. She plays Amy, “a self-destructive woman who has a spiritual awakening becomes determined to live an enlightened life, creating havoc at home and work” (IMDb). Enlightened is a sophisticated mix of drama and comedy; dramedy. It definitely enters the realm of a ‘dark comedy’ as it depicts issues like depression and spirituality. Enlightened may seem a bit dry or light at times, but that’s when the writing, acting and themes flaunt their heaviness and pull on your heart strings.
Season 2 of Enlightened premieres January 13th 2013 on HBO.
