Conjunction (Poem)

Conjunction

Just when the sun goes down
All seems damp in the world
The sky clears as it darkens
And the air turns to a chill
Nightly shadows creep around
To mock what was once visible

Just as the lens is out of focus
You lose sight of your goals
Distractions shift attention
The roads sway random course
As your outlook begins to change
It may be best to aim different

Just when the water boils over
No gloves to remove a hot pot
A fire takes hold of valuables
Some wishes get washed away
As you try to save yourself
Now just salvage the wreck

Just as the sun comes up
Rebound goals can be made
As you pick up the many pieces
And begin to rebuild wonders
With fortified conviction
You determine just what you can

Different Strokes (Poem)

Different Strokes

Paint peels away
Like dried roses
Stripping down
Bare to the bone
Crumbs leftover
On the grounds
Dirty fingernails
Hold evidence
Claws scratched
Digging deeper
Searching farther
Planning a break
From the prison
On an island
Out in the middle
Of everywhere
Empty pockets
Courageous hearts
Look at canvas
As a blank slate
And take hold
Once again
After so long
The paintbrush
And stroke
